MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Grinnell College's volleyball team opened the Cornell College Invitational Friday with 3-0 setbacks to Nebraska Wesleyan University and Wartburg College.
Playing minus the services of last year's Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year
Kaylin Kuhn '21, Grinnell lost 25-11, 26-24, 25-18 to Nebraska Wesleyan and 25-10, 25-15, 25-22 to the Knights.
Payton Lowrey '22 had 13 kills against Nebraska Wesleyan and
Hannah Taylor '21 added 10 while hitting .308.
Julianna Roth '22 distributed 31 assists,
Madison Smith '20 added 16 digs and
Julia Welch '22 had 13 digs. In the Wartburg match, Lowrey pounded down 10 kills and Roth added 21 assists. Lowrey also had 10 digs.
The Pioneers, 9-7 overall, continue tourney play Saturday with matches against Augustana College and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
