RIPON, Wis. – Grinnell College's women's basketball team dug an early hole and couldn't quite get out as the Pioneers lost a 73-47 decision at Ripon College Saturday afternoon.
Tyria Heath '21 had a strong showing for Grinnell, coming up with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field as well as a team-high two assists.
Aidan Coalson '22 tallied a career-high three blocks and
Sasha Thomas '22 scored eight points and had two steals.
Daria Guzzo '19 and
Mikayla Kricfalusi '20 had six and five rebounds, respectively, and
Sofia Ahooja '22 added two assists.
After Ripon broke out to a 4-0 lead, Guzzo sliced that gap in half with a layup. But the Red Hawks went on to score 15 points in a row to close out the period for a 19-2 lead. Grinnell was down 36-6 at halftime and trailed 58-38 after three periods.
The Pioneers, 2-5 in the Midwest Conference and 4-9 overall, closed the game well by outscoring the hosts 19-15 in the fourth quarter. With the win, Ripon moved to 5-1 in the MWC and 6-7 overall.
The Pioneers are on the road again Tuesday, playing Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill., at 5:30 p.m.
