Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

Grinnell women put up great fight, but fall just shy against MWC favorite Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Grinnell College women's soccer team played on even terms for virtually all of Saturday's contest against the preseason Midwest Conference favorite, Knox College.

But a goal by the Prairie Fire late in the second half held up as they secured a 1-0 victory in a highly-competitive contest.

The first half went back and forth, with the teams combining for just seven shots. The offenses got going in the second half, as each team managed more shots with Knox's eventual game-winner coming in the 71st minute.

Grinnell managed five shots in the game, those coming from Simo Bambi '20, Alyssa Radakovich '21, Cally Carr '21, Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 and Lauren Edwards '20. Shots by Carr and Edwards were on goal. Elizabeth Hunt '21 came up with another strong effort at keeper, making nine saves.

Knox improved to 4-0-1 in the conference and 9-4-2 overall with the win. Grinnell, 2-1-1 in the league and 5-5-2 in all matches, returns to Springer Field next Saturday to face Ripon College. The Senior Day affair begins at 11 a.m.
