GRINNELL, Iowa – Try and try as they may, the Grinnell College women's soccer team fell just shy in a thrilling 1-0 loss to Cornell College in a battle of Midwest Conference Tournament contenders Wednesday.
On a cold and blustery day at Springer Field, Cornell had the wind in the first half and won the shots battle just 4-3, with the lone score coming on an own goal in the 18th minute.
Grinnell went wild with the wind in the second half, firing off 13 shots but coming up empty-handed thanks in part to several incredible saves by the Rams' keeper. Several of those saves came on valiant shot attempts by the Pioneers in the waning minutes.
Grinnell won the overall shots battle 16-5, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers featured a balanced attack as
Alyssa Radakovich '21 and
Quinn Berleman-Paul '21 had three shots each and
Hope Nowak '22,
Cally Carr '21 and
Haley Reynolds '21 two apiece.

The Pioneers, 3-2-2 in the MWC and 6-6-3 overall, prepare for another big MWC contest Saturday when they play at Monmouth College. Kickoff is 11 a.m.
Cornell improved to 5-0-2 in the league and 11-4-2 in all games.
