Grinnell women's soccer team puts on dominating performance in finale

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – To say the Grinnell College women's soccer team finished the 2019 campaign on a dominating note would be an understatement.

The Pioneers fired off 47 shots, just missing the program's all-time top 10 list for shots in a match, with 24 of those on goal in a 3-0 victory at Illinois College Saturday.

Everyone got into the act, as the Pioneers had 23 players see action with 11 of them taking shots. Grinnell outshot Illinois College 18-2 in the first period and 29-1 in the second while holding an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.

Elizabeth Hunt '21 and Hannah Malicky '22 combined on the shutout at keeper for Grinnell, with Hunt making two saves.

Grinnell struck for the only goal it needed just nine minutes in when Celeste Kaspar '21 recorded her second score of the season on Cally Carr's '21 assist, her second in 2019.

Just six minutes later, Lauren Edwards '20 got into the act with her first goal of the season. Classmate Simo Bambi '20 got the assist, her first of the year.

It remained 2-0 until Alyssa Radakovich '21 put on the finishing touch in the 70th minute with her team-high sixth goal of the year. Edwards had the assist, her first assist of the year.

Bambi led the shots charge for Grinnell with nine, including five on goal. Halle Remash '20 contributed seven, and collecting five apiece were Valencia Alvarez '20, Quinn Berleman-Paul '21, Carr and Edwards. Radakovich added four shots and Kaspar three.

Grinnell, which finished 4-3-2 in the Midwest Conference and 7-7-3 overall, had several players make the program's season and career top 10 lists during the season. All those marks are listed below.

Illinois College finished at 0-9 in the league and 5-13 in all contests.
