Grinnell men's soccer team loses hard-fought 1-0 decision at Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn - For more than 89 minutes of Sunday's match, Grinnell College's men's soccer team played Carleton College to a scoreless draw.

But the host Knights, who are receiving votes for the national rankings, eked out a goal with 51 seconds to go to secure a 1-0 victory in the hard-fought battle.

While the Pioneers' defense staved off the Knights' offense, Grinnell's offense made some noise in the second half after getting one shot in the first 45 minutes. The Pioneers managed four shots in the second half but couldn't dent the scoreboard.

Jasper Yang '21 and Ray Goedeker '22 had two shots each for the Pioneers while Noah Guyton '23 added one shot. Jared Cloutier '20 played another solid effort at keeper, recording five saves in a complete-game effort.

Carleton is now 3-1 on the season, while the Pioneers moved to 2-1. Grinnell is back in action Wednesday with a non-conference test at Simpson College in Indianola. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
