GC women's swimming and diving team spreads the wealth in victory over Coe

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's swimming and diving team spread the wealth Saturday afternoon in a 198-67 dual meet win over Coe College at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Highlighting the Pioneers' effort was Sophia Carroll '25, who swam the 18th-fastest time in program history while winning the 400-yard individual medley in 4 minutes, 51.63 seconds.

Carroll was also on the first-place 200 freestyle relay team that won in 1:45.86. Others on the quartet were Ailya Swearngin '25, Myah Rozinek '25 and Enya Gamble '22.

Gamble also won the 50 freestyle in 26.23. Nikki Schlegel '22, Eva Cuevas '25, Camryn Gonzales '25 and Kailee Shermak '25 each had a pair of wins, as well. Schlegel won the 200 backstroke in 2:16.48 and was on the first-place 200 medley relay team with Cuevas, Gonzales and Maree Elliott '24. Their time was 1:55.26.

Cuevas claimed the 500 freestyle in 5:47.24 and Gonzales just missed the program's top 20 in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.78. Shermak swept the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 55.92 and 2:05.46, respectively.

Other winners were Mae Bernacchi '24 in the 1000 freestyle (12:14.04), Olivia Klein '24 in the 100 backstroke (1:04.04), Hannah Sweet '25 in the 200 butterfly (2:32.09) and Sophie Wojdylo '22 in 3-meter diving (209.30).

Grinnell hosts Luther College next Saturday.
