MONMOUTH, Ill. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team extended its already-successful season Friday, topping Lake Forest College to win the Midwest Conference title and move to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

The 5-1 victory pushed Grinnell to 6-0 on the season while giving the Pioneers their 16th MWC crown, including 13 in the last 17 years. Grinnell has won 15 consecutive matches against MWC opposition, dating back to 2019, and is making its 10th trip to nationals.

Grinnell grabbed a 2-1 edge through doubles play, as Ioanna Giannakou '24 and Sabrina Tang '23 won 8-5 at No. 1 and Ali Hickey '21 teamed with Sophia de los Reyes '23 to win 8-2 at No. 3. Hickey now has 41 career doubles wins, 25th-best in Grinnell history.

The Pioneers then sealed the deal in singles, beginning with a 6-0, 6-1 win by Mira Manchanda '24 at No. 4. Then, in a marquee matchup at No. 1, Giannakou topped a two-time MWC No. 1 flight singles champ 6-2, 6-3. Tang finished off the victory at the second spot, winning by consecutive 6-3 scores.

Grinnell will learn its NCAA Tourney opponent and site on Monday. Lake Forest finished its season at 7-2.
