Grinnell volleyball team splits marathon matches in Dubuque event

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Saturday proved to be a marathon day for the Grinnell College volleyball team, as the Pioneers went to five sets in both their matches at the Loras/Dubuque Tournament.

Grinnell was edged by the University of Dubuque to start the day, falling 25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-12. The Pioneers made up for that in the finale, though, toppling Westminster College 16-25, 25-15, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-7.

Highlighting the Pioneers' performance against Dubuque was the net presence of Anna Killin '23, who had a blistering .667 hitting efficiency that ties for 10th-best in program history. She had 16 kills on 21 swings with only two errors.

Kaylin Kuhn '22 had 17 kills for Grinnell, Olivia Jensen '22 put down 14 and Jenna Keller '24 contributed 10. Emily Brewer '24 led the team in assists with 45, Payton Lowrey '22 had four aces and Kuhn three. Getting double-digit digs were Lowrey (18), Rachel Woock '23 and Keller (12 each), Sophie Weber '25 (11) and Kuhn 10.

Grinnell had 13 aces as a team in that match, the same total it had against Westminster. Those figures are tied for eighth-best in school history. Woock led Grinnell in the latter match with 15 kills, while Brewer tallied 33 assists and five aces.  Weber led the way in digs with 16, Lowrey had 14 and Woock 10.
