DUBUQUE, Iowa – Saturday proved to be a marathon day for the Grinnell College volleyball team, as the Pioneers went to five sets in both their matches at the Loras/Dubuque Tournament.
Grinnell was edged by the University of Dubuque to start the day, falling 25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-12. The Pioneers made up for that in the finale, though, toppling Westminster College 16-25, 25-15, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-7.
Highlighting the Pioneers' performance against Dubuque was the net presence of
Anna Killin '23, who had a blistering .667 hitting efficiency that ties for 10
th-best in program history. She had 16 kills on 21 swings with only two errors.
Grinnell had 13 aces as a team in that match, the same total it had against Westminster. Those figures are tied for eighth-best in school history. Woock led Grinnell in the latter match with 15 kills, while Brewer tallied 33 assists and five aces. Weber led the way in digs with 16, Lowrey had 14 and Woock 10.
Grinnell (9-8) opens Midwest Conference play at home Friday night when Monmouth College visits Darby Gymnasium. Match time is 7 p.m.
