GRINNELL, Iowa – Facing a solid University of Wisconsin-Whitewater team, Grinnell College's women's soccer team battled on near even terms for the first half of Wednesday's non-conference match at Springer Field.
The Warhawks led just 1-0 late in the half when a wild flurry of activity resulted in the visitors bouncing a ball off the cross bar and into the goal a mere second before the halftime horn sounded.
UW-Whitewater (4-3) played off that momentum in the second half to come away with a 4-0 victory in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Elinor Arneson '23 made five nice saves for Grinnell (1-6) at the keeper spot, while
Alyssa Radakovich '22 challenged the Warhawk keeper with two of the Pioneers' six shots. Also getting off shots for Grinnell were
Carlie Duus '24,
Reese Komsthoeft '25,
Ali Nadalsky '25 and
Gia Sundaram '25.
The Pioneers open up the long-awaited Midwest Conference slate Saturday when Illinois College visits Springer Field. Kickoff is at 11 a.m.
