Men's and Women's Teams in Final Stretch before Conferences

SAINT PAUL, MN – The Grinnell College Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Teams took a weekend road trip up I-35 to visit Macalester College in a Midwest Conference meet. After all 32 events of the day, both teams took home victories by healthy margins.

For the women's team, a well-rounded effort was led by a few key performances.
For one, veteran diver Sophie Wojdylo '22 took center stage in both the high-flying 3m Diving competition and the lower-flying 1m Diving competition, racking up first-place scores of 245.95 and 223.75, respectively. Each of these scores placed her more than 40 points above the next-in-line finishers.
For another, Sophie Carroll '25 dominated at the 200 yard distance today. She won all three races she swam individually, taking home season-best times of 2:20.13, 2:38.45, and 2:15.98 respectively in the 200 Butterfly, 200 Breaststroke, and 200 IM, and was also a member of the winning 200 Medley relay team.
Eva Cuevas '25, also a member of that 200 Medley crew, took home a convincing and quick 11:38.31 first-place finish in the long 1000 Freestyle. The women's team was further strongly supported by performances from first-place scores from Kailee Shermak '25 in the 100 Freestyle in 56.46 seconds and Camryn Gonzales '25 clocking in at 1:00.01 in the 100 Butterfly, among many other notable results from the whole team.

On the men's side of the action, Grinnell's swimmers took home top honors in all ten of the events they swam.
Particularly noteworthy among all of those successful performances were season-best swims by first-year collegiate swimmers Adam Feilmeyer '25 in the 200 back (2:02.12), Harry Nelson '25 in the 200 Freestyle (1:49.80), and Kevin Fitzgerald '25 in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.10).
The veteran swimmers also chipped in. Bert Wang '23 swam to a commanding 2:02.45 first-place victory in the 200 Butterfly and veteran Luke Klein-Collins '23 showed some impressive strokes in a 22.67-second 50 Freestyle performance.

Both men's and women's teams are showing great promise as they head into their home tournament the Grinnell Quadrangular next Saturday, February 5th, before having a couple weeks off of competition to rest up and prepare for conferences which take place in Grinnell the weekend of February 19th and 20th.
