GRINNELL, Iowa – One day after sweeping Midwest Conference foe Lawrence University, Grinnell College's volleyball team repeated the feat Saturday against Ripon College.
The Pioneers blew past the Red Hawks 25-17, 25-23 and 25-15 at Darby Gymnasium to remain perfect in the Midwest Conference at 5-0. The Pioneers are 14-6 overall, while Ripon fell to 0-3 in the league and 2-17 overall.
Rachel Woock '23 led Grinnell in hitting with 10 kills, while
Ella O'Neill '26 and
Hayley Taka '26 had eight each.
Emily Brewer '24 contributed 31 assists and also served two aces.
O'Neill and Taka added four blocks apiece and
Payton Lowrey '23 led the team in digs with 33. Brewer and Woock had 16 digs each and
Sophie Weber '25 came up with 11.
An 8-2 run by Grinnell midway through the first set helped the hosts take command and pull away for the win. Grinnell trailed the second set 22-19 before a 5-0 spurt made it 24-22. Woock had a kill in that span and
Emmy Nyquist '24 an ace. After Ripon scored,
Malaina Miles '25 pounded down a kill for the win.
The third set saw Grinnell lead by just two before going on a 7-1 run. The Pioneers continued to cruise and won the match on a Ripon service error.
The win stretched the Pioneers' winning streak against Ripon to four matches.
Grinnell plays its final regular-season home match Thursday when Knox College visits Darby Gymnasium. Action begins at 7 p.m.
