LINCOLN, Neb. – Grinnell College's women's basketball team took to the road Saturday, falling 63-46 at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Annie Filkins '24 led the Pioneers' balanced scoring attack with 10 points, hitting two 3-pointers in the process.
Elena Friedman '24 added nine points and
Sarah Toay '23 had six.
Annabel Dougherty '25 led the rebounding department with nine,
Grace Marsh '25 contributed six and
Sara Booher '25 grabbed five.
Kelsey Ericksen '26 dished out two assists and Filkins had two steals.
Nebraska Wesleyan (2-0) bolted out to a 12-0 lead, but Grinnell refused to go away. The Pioneers finished the first period with a 14-3 run as Filkins,
Skylar Thomas '26 and Ericksen each hit treys, Dougherty made a layup, Thomas a pair of free throws and Filkins one free throw to make it 15-14.
Though Grinnell (0-2) never got the lead, the visitors were within 25-22 late in the second quarter after a layup by
P.K. Hall '25. However, the Prairie Wolves responded and led 34-25 at halftime. They followed with a 19-10 edge in the third period on their way to victory.
Grinnell will look to enter the win column Monday when Central Christian College of the Bible visits Darby Gymnasium for a 5:30 p.m. test.
