Grinnell women's soccer team continues impressive streak with shutout of Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Grinnell College continued its impressive play on the pitch Wednesday afternoon, posting its 10th shutout of the season and third in a row by toppling Cornell College 2-0 in women's soccer action.

The victory allowed Grinnell to keep pace among the top of the Midwest Conference standings, moving to 4-0-1 in the league and 8-3-3 overall.

This marks just the ninth time in program history that Grinnell has posted double-digit shutouts, with this season's total matching that of 2022.

Grinnell, which has lost just once in the last month-plus, has won six times in that same span while tying twice. Grinnell has a 23-2 scoring edge over its foes in those matches.

The Pioneers fired off 38 shots against Cornell, their second-highest total of the season, while limiting the Rams to just one shot. That matches a season-low for a Grinnell foe. Grinnell held a 15-0 edge in shots on goal and 5-0 margin in corner kicks.

Jane March '24 opened Grinnell's scoring in the 27th minute with her team-high sixth goal of the season and 13th in her career. Rama Joshi '27 had the assist, her first this season.

The Pioneers got some insurance in the 54th minute when Giada Bambi '25 found the back of the net with her second goal of the year and sixth in her career.

Bambi had six of Grinnell's shots, Reese Komsthoeft '25 and Ramona Delborne '26 added four apiece and Tessa Leahy '25, March, Tali Berk '24 and Gia Sundaram '25 tallied three each.

Peyton Dixon '27 got the shutout at keeper to boost her season total to 10.

Cornell dipped to 1-5 in the league and 1-8-3 in all games.

Grinnell takes to the road this weekend to face Beloit College on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
