Grinnell volleyball team celebrates Senior Day with sweep of Lawerence

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's volleyball team celebrated Senior Day in dominating fashion Saturday, blanking Lawrence University in straight sets at Darby Gymnasium.

Grinnell, which swept its second Midwest Conference foe in a row, won by scores of 25-21, 25-9 and 25-12.

Jenna Keller '25 was impressive at the net, collecting 18 kills while hitting .571. Hayley Taka '26 added 10 kills and hit .381. As a team, Grinnell hit .333, which is the third-best percentage this season.

Emily Brewer '24 added 29 assists and Julianna Vajda '24, Keller and Taka added two aces each. Keller and Brewer tallied nine digs apiece.

Grinnell trailed the first set 21-19 before catching fire, reeling off six points in a row. Keller had four kills in that span and Taka and Malaina Miles '25 had one each.

The Pioneers shot out to a 12-4 lead in the second set and never looked back. It was more of the same in the third set, as Grinnell led 12-6 before going on an eight-point run that included kills by Taka and Keller and an ace from Taka.

Grinnell improved to 2-0 in the MWC and 9-11 overall, while Lawrence fell to 1-2 in the league and 4-14 in all matches. The Pioneers entertain Illinois College at 7 p.m. Friday.
