GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's tennis team added to its Midwest Conference title collection with a 9-0 shutout against Cornell College on a picture-perfect day at 10
th Avenue Courts.
The Pioneers won their 19
th MWC crown while improving to 6-0 both in the league and overall. Grinnell has won 37 consecutive matches against MWC foes dating back to the 2018-19 season.
Grinnell opened the match by cruising through doubles play.
Lily Perrin '25 and
Ioanna Giannakou '24 posted an 8-1 decision at the No. 1 spot, while
Sydney Marin '25 and
Anika Sheth '26 won by the same score at No. 3. At No. 2 doubles,
Paige Sargent '27 and
Isa Voinescu '26 earned an 8-2 victory.
Singles winners, in order, were Giannakou (6-2, 6-2), Sargent (6-2, 6-3),
Utsah Kalra '25 (6-0, 6-1), Voinescu (6-1, 6-1), Marin (6-0, 6-1) and
Nichole Henning '26 (6-0, 6-1).
Grinnell wraps up the fall portion of its season in the next week.
Irene Agusti '24 will compete in the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., beginning later this week and the Pioneers will participate in the MWC Individual Tournament Saturday and Sunday in Madison, Wis.
