Esztergomi, Klass team up to defeat nationally-ranked foe in tennis dual

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. - The Grinnell College men's tennis duo of Leo Esztergomi '24 and Aiden Klass '25 tripped up a nationally-ranked tandem to highlight the Pioneers' performance against the host school at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament Sunday.

Esztergomi and Klass teamed up for an 8-4 victory over the Warhawk squad, ranked 15th nationally and fourth in the region, at the top doubles spot.

UW-Whitewater, ranked 34th nationally and seventh in the region, won the match by a 7-2 count.

Grinnell's other win also came in doubles play, that an 8-6 decision from Karch Knoll '25 and Lucas Willett '26 at No. 3.

Esztergomi gave his nationally-ranked foe at No. 1 singles a tough battle, losing 7-5, 6-4. His opponent is 39th in the nation and 12th in the region.

Wilder Cooke '26 and Knoll also put up great fights to regionally-ranked opponents at the Nos. 2 and 3 singles slots.

Grinnell, 3-3, meets Carleton College next Saturday in Des Moines.
