GC men's tennis team goes a perfect 3-for-3 in Saturday matches

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's tennis team enjoyed a busy day Saturday, going a perfect 3-for-3 at two different sites.

The Pioneers posted consecutive 9-0 victories over Ripon College and Lawrence University in Midwest Conference play at Grinnell, while a group also traveled to Cedar Rapids and toppled Coe College 8-1 in non-conference play.

With the wins over Ripon and Lawrence, Grinnell stretched its winning streak against league foes to 176 dating back to the 2002-03 season. Additionally, Grinnell has posted shutouts in 23 of its last 26 matches against MWC foes.

Singles winners against Lawrence were Wilder Cooke '25 (6-1, 6-0), Henry Bridgers '24 (6-1, 6-1), Luka Shaker-Check '25 (6-1, 6-0), Simon Kennel '23 (6-1, 6-0), Charles Yung '24 (6-0, 6-2) and William Chhim '25 (6-0, 6-0). Winning in doubles were the duos of Cooke-Bridgers (8-2), Shaker-Check-Kennel (8-2) and Chhim-Jonah Gilmore '24 (8-1).

Winning singles matches against Ripon were Cooke (6-1, 6-2), Bridgers (6-0, 6-0), Shaker-Check (7-5, 6-2), Gilmore (6-0, 6-0), Kennel (6-1, 6-0) and Yung (6-0, 6-0). In doubles, victories were garnered by the duos of Leo Esztergomi '24-Aiden Klass '25 (8-6), Sam Rudenberg '25-Deuce Daniel '26 (8-4) and Karch Knoll '25-Lucas Willett '26 (8-0).

Esztergomi, who is regionally-ranked in singles play, won 6-2, 6-4 at the top spot against Coe. Winning at Nos. 3 through 6 were Willett (3-7, 7-6, 1-0), Rudenberg (6-4, 7-6), Klass (6-1, 6-0) and Daniel (6-2, 6-0).

Esztergomi and Klass, who are regionally-ranked in doubles, won 8-1 at the No. 1 spot. Also winning were the duos of Rudenberg and Daniel at No. 2 (8-5) and Knoll-Willett at No. 3 (8-7).

Grinnell, 13-7, wraps up regular-season play next Saturday with matches at Monmouth College and Illinois College.
