Grinnell players claim 7 of 9 flight titles at MWC Men's Tennis Tournament

PEORIA, Ill. – After taking care of business in the Midwest Conference Team Tournament Friday, the Grinnell College men's tennis team continued its dominance in individual play during the weekend.
 
Grinnell claimed seven of nine flight titles Sunday at the Clubs at River City.
 
Karch Knoll '25, Lucas Willett '26 and Sam Rudenberg '25 each claimed two crowns, while Wilder Cooke '25, Aiden Klass '25 and Deuce Daniel '26 won one apiece. Knoll and Rudenberg each have three MWC crowns in their careers, while Cooke has a pair.

Zack HasenyagerAdditionally, Grinnell coach Zack Hasenyager (inset) claimed the MWC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year honor.
 
All five of Grinnell's singles titles were over players from Lake Forest College. Cooke won the No. 2 final 6-0, 6-1, Knoll earned a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 decision at No. 3, Willett posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4, Rudenberg won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Klass collected a victory at No. 6 by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
 
Rudenberg and Daniel teamed up to win No. 2 doubles, while Knoll and Willett won at No. 3. Rudenberg and Daniel beat their foe from Ripon College 8-1 in the semifinals and a foe from Lake Forest 8-2 in the title match. At No. 3, Knoll and Willett won 8-0 over an opponent from Lawrence University and then 8-3 against a team from Lake Forest.
 
Leo Esztergomi '24 and Klass lost by walkover in the No. 1 semifinals. Esztergomi lost a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision in a battle of regionally-ranked players in the No. 1 singles title match.
