Grinnell women's tennis team splits matches at highly-competitive Midwest Invite

MADISON, Wis. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team will play for third place at the highly-competitive Midwest Invite after splitting matches Friday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Pioneers opened the day with a 6-3 victory over a 17-win North Central College squad in the quarterfinals. Grinnell got out to a 2-1 lead through doubles play, with wins by the No. 2 duo of Isa Voinescu '26-Mira Manchanda '24 (8-6) and No. 3 team of Utsah Kalra '25-Lily Perrin '25 (8-2).

Sabrina Tang '23 won 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 singles spot. Tang's 73 career singles wins rank second in program history, just two off the Grinnell record. Tang has 21 singles wins this season, 21st-best in program history, and 124 combined career wins which is sixth all-time.

Other singles winners for Grinnell were Kalra at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3), Perrin at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) and Anika Sheth '26 at No. 6 (7-6, 6-1).

The Pioneers then faced the nation's top-ranked team, University of Chicago. The Maroons, who featured a lineup of several nationally-ranked players, came away with a 9-0 win.

Grinnell will play in the third-place match Saturday at 9 a.m.
