Grinnell women's tennis team passes NCAA regional 1st-round test with flying colors

CHICAGO, Ill. - For the fourth time in a row, Grinnell College's women's tennis team advanced beyond the first round at the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.

The Pioneers extended the streak Thursday as they rolled past Luther College by a 5-1 score at the University of Chicago regional.

Grinnell shot out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play. Lily Perrin '25 and Utsah Kalra '25 scored the first victory, an 8-1 decision at No. 3. Isa Voinescu '26 and Erin Jarvis '25 added an 8-6 decision at No. 2 and Sabrina Tang '23 and Ioanna Giannakou '24 - the ninth-ranked duo in the region - followed with an 8-4 victory at No. 1.

Tang now has 54 career doubles victories, 14th in program history, and 130 combined wins which are third-most. Giannakou's 49 career doubles victories rank 18th all-time and 20 doubles wins this season are 23rd.

Kalra gave Grinnell a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles. Giannakou finished off the win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2.

Grinnell, 16-7 on the season, advanced to Friday's regional semifinal against top-ranked University of Chicago. Luther finishes up at 19-11.
