GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's defense stood tall against a high-flying and once-beaten Simpson College women's soccer team for much of the match Thursday.
Through 72 minutes in Grinnell's home opener at Springer Field, the Pioneers turned away several shot opportunities by the Storm to remain in a 0-all deadlock.
However, the Storm dented the scoreboard with 18 minutes to go and added an insurance goal four minutes later to eke out a 2-0 non-conference victory.
Peyton Dixon '27 posted 15 saves for Grinnell, fourth-most in program history. Grinnell, which had three corner kicks to match the total by the Storm, also had nine shots with
Tali Berk '24 taking five of those. Getting one shot apiece were
Ella Hunt '26,
Katie Carson '25,
Jane March '24 and Gia Sundarum '25.
Simpson improved to 5-1 with the win and Grinnell moved to 2-2-1.
The Pioneers have the weekend off before hosting Central College Wednesday. Action at Springer Field begins at 5 p.m.
