RIPON, Wis. – Grinnell College's men's soccer team not only collected its first Midwest Conference victory Saturday, but did so in convincing style by rolling by Ripon College 3-1 on the Red Hawks' field.
The Pioneers did all their damage in the first eight minutes, beginning with
Jack Pennachio's '28 goal coming just three minutes into the contest. It was the first collegiate goal of his career.
Soma Suzuki '25 had the assist.
Dylan Maddux '25 converted his team-high fourth goal barely two minutes after Pennachio, with
Anthony Hong '27 and
Ezra Gould '27 providing the assists. It was Maddux's 16
th career goal.
The Pioneers (3-3-5, 1-0-2 MWC) finished off their scoring not even three minutes after the goal by Maddux, with
Zak Serby '25 finding the back of the net for his second goal of the year and third in his career.
The Red Hawks (8-4, 0-3 MWC) got their goal with under 10 minutes left in the match.
Grinnell owned the shots battle 14-10, including 11-3 in the first half alone. The Pioneers also came out on top in corner kicks by a 6-4 margin.
Jayson Kunkel '26 worked the whole match at keeper, making four saves.
Serby and Hong each had three shots for Grinnell, while Maddux,
Samuel Gojjam '27 and
Oliver Northing '26 adding two each. Pennachio and
Owen Wilson '25 took one each.
Grinnell is off until next Saturday when it plays Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
