Pioneer women's swimmers dominate the competition at Monmouth Invite

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Eight different athletes collected titles to help the Grinnell College women's swimming and diving team to victory at the Monmouth Invite Saturday.

Triple winners were Sophia Carroll '25 and Sarah Lopez '26. Carroll won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 19.36 seconds) and 100 freestyle (56.76) and also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:56.68). Lopez was also on that relay, as well as the first-place 200 medley relay that swam 1:56.99. Lopez's other win came in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.26.

Aliya Swearngin '25 and Maya Comer '28 rounded out the freestyle relay team, while others on the medley squad were Bella Takata '28, Eva Cuevas '25 and Swearngin.

Other wins came from Takata in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.00), Josephine Hopkins '28 in the 200 freestyle (2:08.98) and Rachel Howard '27 in the 500 freestyle (5:29.18).

Individual runners-up for Grinnell were Takata in the 100 butterfly (1:05.05) and Joelle Haensly '25 in the 500 freestyle (5:31.57).

Grinnell finished with 97 points, Monmouth had 61 and Illinois College tallied 28.
