GC women's tennis team takes advantage of busy day by earning pair of victories

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's tennis team had a busy day Saturday, splitting squads and playing at two sites in three matches.

The Pioneers made the most of the opportunity, toppling a pair of American Rivers Conference foes and falling just short against a strong Gustavus Adolphus College squad.

In the Bear Center Field House, Grinnell ran its winning streak against Central College to 11 matches with a 7-2 victory. The Pioneers began with two victories in doubles, those by the No. 1 squad of Kalea Martin '25-Nichole Henning '26 (8-4) and No. 3 duo of Addie Persian '27-Alyssa Trapp '26 (8-6).

Singles winners were Pari Chavan '27 at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), Martin at No. 2 (6-1, 6-4), Henning at No. 3 (2-6, 6-1, 6-0), Trapp at No. 4 (6-2, 6-3) and Nehir Ergun '26 at No. 5 (6-3, 7-5).

In St. Peter, Minn., the Pioneers won their fifth consecutive match against Luther College with a 9-0 shutout. Grinnell opened with doubles victories by the teams of Ioanna Giannakou '24-Lily Perrin '25 (8-3), Irene Agusti '24-Erin Jarvis '25 (8-2) and Paige Sargent '27-Isa Voinescu '26 (8-20.

In singles, winners in order were Giannakou (6-1, 6-3), Agusti (6-1, 6-2), Perrin (6-3, 6-3), Utsah Kalra '25 (6-1, 6-1), Jarvis (6-1, 6-4) and Anika Sheth '26 (6-3, 6-4).

Gustavus Adolphus got by Grinnell 6-3. Sargent and Voinescu won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles, while singles winners were Kalra at No. 5 (0-6, 6-0, 6-2) and Jarvis at No. 6 (6-2, 6-4). Kalra now has 41 career singles victories, which is 22nd in program history, while Giannakou's total of 46 ranks 15th.

Grinnell, 12-1, has more than a week off before competing in spring break matches at Hilton Head, S.C.
