Grinnell women's tennis team finishes off historic season at NCAA D-III Tourney

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team wrapped up its historic season Friday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament, losing 5-1 to sixth-ranked Washington University of St. Louis.

The Pioneers set a school record for wins this season while finishing at 23-5. Grinnell rose to No. 23 in the national rankings, its highest-ever spot, while qualifying for the NCAAs for the fourth year in a row and 13th time overall.

Grinnell got its victory Friday from the No. 3 doubles team of Paige Sargent '27 and Isa Voinescu '26, who posted an 8-5 decision. Ioanna Giannakou '24 and Lily Perrin '25 gave their nationally-ranked foe a good run at the top doubles spot before losing.

The hosts, who improved to 18-4, wrapped up the victory with decisions at the top three singles spot. Sargent led her regionally-ranked opponent 7-6, 2-1 at No. 4 singles when the Bears clinched the team victory.

Grinnell, which qualified for the NCAA Tourney by winning the Midwest Conference team title and extending its victory streak against league foes to 39 matches, had plenty of movement this season on its all-time leaderboard.

Giannakou won 66 doubles matches in her GC career, good for third all-time at the school, while Perrin's 59 wins rank 10th and Jarvis' 49 victories being 20th-best. In singles play, Giannakou ranks 11th (51 wins), Utsah Kalra '25 is 14th (50), Irene Agusti '24 is 20th (42) and Perrin is 23rd (40).

On the season-best singles list, Kalra ranks 14th with 21 victories in 2024 and Giannakou is 22nd with 19. Perrin and Sargent rank 10th for season doubles victories with 22 and Voinescu is 16th with 21.
