Grinnell comes away with split at home volleyball triangular

GRINNELL, Iowa - Facing a loaded field in a triangular at Darby Gymnasium, Grinnell College's volleyball team came away with a split Friday.

Grinnell opened the event with a three-set sweep of a tough Loras College team, winning by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-23.

The Pioneers limited the Duhawks to a .077 hitting efficiency and hit .189 themselves. Jenna Keller '25 led the Pioneers with 17 kills and a .382 efficiency, while Emily Brewer '25 distributed 24 assists. Millie Leonard '27 posted four blocks and Ella O'Neill '25 added three. In the digs department, Keller led the way with 10.

Grinnell shot out to an 8-2 lead in the opening set and never looked back. The Pioneers trailed the second set 15-12 before reeling off three consecutive points to tie things up. It was tight after that, tied at 23-all before Keller and Hayley Taka '26 blasted consecutive kills. There was more of the same in the third set, which was also tied 23-all before Brewer got a kill and Loras an attack error to secure Grinnell's sweep.

The Pioneers then battled Augustana College, falling 3-2. The visitors won the opening set 25-19, but Grinnell rallied for victories of 26-24 and 25-17. The Vikings won the fourth set 25-22 and then took the deciding set 15-8.

Leonard tied a career-high with 18 kills while hitting .421. Keller added 16 kills and Keira Sullivan '27 had 13. Brewer recorded 40 assists and served two aces, the same ace total as Keller. Kylie Snell '26 tied a career-high with four block assists and the digs attack was led by Brewer, Sophie Weber '25 and Keller, who had 22, 16 and 14, respectively.

The 11-4 Pioneers travel to Waverly Tuesday to face Wartburg College.
