Grinnell women claim 3 event titles on opening day of double dual

Results

GRINNELL, Iowa - Three members of the Grinnell College women's swimming and diving team collected victories Friday night in the Pioneers' season-opening double dual at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Maya Comer '28 was first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4 minutes, 55.99 seconds, Sarah Lopez '26 took top honors in the 100 butterfly in 59.89 and first-year diver Alex Kruse '29 piled up 240.50 points to take the 3-meter event. That score ranks eighth in program history.

Grinnell leads Augustana College 110-53 after the opening day and trails Colorado College 90-73.

Runners-up for Grinnell were Simone Bennett '29 in the 100 backstroke (1:01.01), Vivian Woare '28 in the 400 individual medley (4:56.75), Zoe Kwok '29 in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.08) and Jane Markovitz '26 in 3-meter diving (189.25). Bennett's 100 back time ranks 16th in program history.

Grinnell was also second in the 400 medley relay with Bennett, Tory Morse '29, Lopez and Samantha Cook '26. Their time was 4:04.44.

The Pioneers were third in the 400 freestyle relay, as Morse, Nina Lyons '29, Ciara Vogler '26 and Cook finished in 3:45.97. Also placing third were Lyons in the 500 freestyle (5:28.52), Lopez in the 100 backstroke (1:02.24), Comer in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.10) and Bella Nesbeth '26 in 3-meter diving (159.00).

The meet continues at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
