Women's Swimming and Diving Ted Schultz

Grinnell women put up impressive performances on opening day of University of Chicago meet

CHICAGO - Grinnell College's women's swimming and diving team made the most of its chance to compete against some of the nation's best, coming up with several strong performances Friday at the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic.

Samantha Cook '27, Tory Morse '29, Ciara Vogler '26 and Sophie Juethner '26 had the Pioneers' highest finish of the day, placing 12th in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 38.61 seconds.

Simone Bennett '29, Maya Comer '28, Sarah Lopez '26 and Cook were 17th in the 400 medley relay in 3:58.99. Bennett swam the opening 200 backstroke leg in 59.14, which ranks sixth all-time at Grinnell. In the 500 freestyle, Comer and Cook were 19th and 20th in 5:15.76 and 5:22.90, respectively. Nina Lyons '29 swam 5:16.40 in the finals, which ranks 12th all-time.

The Pioneers are sixth in the team standings with 168 points.

The meet continues through Sunday.
