Grinnell women's swimming and diving team excels again at University of Chicago meet

CHICAGO - Grinnell College's women's swimming and diving team enjoyed another superb day at the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic Saturday.

Competing with some of the nation's best, Grinnell had several high placings and entries onto the program's all-time leader list.

In 1-meter diving, Alex Kruse '29 recorded the 11th-best effort in GC history with a score of 378.25 while placing eighth. Jane Markovitz '26 added an 11th-place finish at 288.85 and Bella Nesbeth '26 scored 270.30 to place 12th.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Maya Comer '28, Nina Lyons '29, Sarah Lopez '26 and Samantha Cook '27 placed 12th in 8:04.72, while Simone Bennett '29 was 16th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.10. Her clocking of 58.83 in the prelims ranks fourth in program history.

Lopez was 17th in the 100 butterfly in 58.09, while Vivian Woare '28 and Comer were 18th and 20th in the 400 individual medley in 4:46.05 and 4:53.29, respectively.

Bennett's prelim time of 58.51 in the 100 butterfly prelims is sixth in program history, while Tory Morse '29 and Ava Rodriguez '27 swam 1:08.53 and 1:09.56 in the 100 breaststroke to rank 14th and 18th in school history.

Bennett, Morse, Lopez and Sophie Juethner '26 were 15th in the 200 medley relay in 1:48.98.

Grinnell remained sixth in the team standings with 519 points. Second-ranked New York University is the leader at 1824.5.

The meet concludes Sunday.
