Grinnell women enjoy more success on final day of University of Chicago swimming and diving event

CHICAGO - Grinnell College's women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 16th Annual University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic with yet another strong performance.

Facing plenty of nationally-ranked competition, top 10 finishes were garnered Sunday by Sarah Lopez '26 in the 200-yard butterfly (eighth in 2 minutes, 8.51 seconds) and Alex Kruse '29 in 3-meter diving (seventh with 378.35 points).

Nina Lyons '29 was 13th in the 1650 freestyle in 18:07.00, a time that ranks seventh in program history. Her split of 10:55.79 through 1000 yards ranks 10th all-time.

Simone Bennett '29 took 16th in the 200 backstroke in 2:10.30 and Regan Stambaugh '26 was 20th in 2:15.16. Bennett's time of 2:08.90 in the prelims is sixth in GC history.

In the 200 breaststroke, Joely Kam '28 was 17th in 2:27.71. Maya Comer '28 swam 2:30.50 in the prelims, which ranks 12th all-time. Vivian Woare '28 was 20th in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.99, while Maria Restrepo '29 went 2:17.57 in the prelims to rank 20th all-time.

Evelyn Deutsch '29 and Bella Nesbeth '26 were 11th and 13 in 3-meter diving, respectively, with scores of 281.30 and 272.95. Tory Morse '29 swam 54.10 in the 100 freestyle prelims, a clocking that ranks 15th in GC history.

The Pioneers concluded the meet with a 19th-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay as Morse, Sophie Juethner '26, Lopez and Samantha Cook '27 swam 3:37.70.

Grinnell finished sixth in the team standings with 775.5 points. New York University was the champ with 2625.
