GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2025 Midwest Conference Championships in perfect fashion Thursday.

The Pioneer quartet of Sophia Carroll '25, Sarah Lopez '26, Molly Ryan '27 and Samantha Cook '27 teamed up to win the 800-yard freestyle relay at Russell K. Osgood Pool in 7 minutes, 42.51 seconds. That bettered the previous MWC, meet, pool and school records of 7:42.71, set by Grinnell a decade ago.

Carroll now has 10 MWC titles to her credit, Lopez has six and Ryan a pair.

The winning performance gave Grinnell 40 points after the opening day of competition. The meet kicks in again at 10 a.m. Friday.
