Pioneers roll over IC and Lake Forest in MWC Team Tournament

MADISON, Wis. - Different season, but yet the same successful result for the Grinnell College men's tennis team.

The Pioneers clinched their 18th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament by blanking both Illinois College and Lake Forest College by 4-0 scores Friday at the Midwest Conference Team Tournament.

The Pioneers have won the MWC Tourney 21 consecutive years and 22 times overall. They also own a 196-match winning streak against MWC foes, dating back to 2002-023, and posted shutouts against 39 of their last 46 league opponents.

In the title match at Nielsen Tennis Center, Grinnell breezed past Lake Forest. Grinnell got the doubles point right off the bat, as Aiden Klass '25 and Lucas Willett '26 won 6-2 at the No. 1 spot and Albert Bostoen '26 and Karch Knoll '25 posted a 7-6 (7-3) decision at No. 3.

Singles winners were Wilder Cooke '25 at No. 1 by a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) decision, Klass at No. 4 by a 6-3, 6-1 count and Henry Park '28 at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-2 score.

Earlier in the day, the Pioneers sailed by Illinois College in the semifinals. Klass and Willett won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Knoll and Bostoen teamed up for a 6-0 decision at No. 3.

Cooke now ranks 23rd in program history with 53 career singles victories, while Klass moved to 24th in doubles wins with 56. On the overall career victory list, Klass and Willett are both knocking on the door of the 100-win list. Klass now has 99 wins and Willett is at 95.
