Willett leads strong charge by Grinnell at ITA Midwest Regional Championships

ST. PETER, Minn. - Lucas Willett '27 led a stellar performance in singles play by the Grinnell College men's tennis team at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend.

Willett became Grinnell's first quarterfinalist in singles play since 2016. Willett, the fifth seed, had a first-round bye before posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory over a player from Luther College, 7-5, 6-3 decision over the 17th seed from Concordia (Minn.) and 5-7, 7-5, 10-7 and a win over a seeded foe from Carroll University. Willett then lost a 6-1, 3-6, 11-9 marathon quarterfinal to the ninth seed from Carleton College.

Garvin Murray '29, seeded 17th, advanced to the round of 16 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over a foe from Carthage College and 7-5, 2-6, 10-1 win over the ninth seed from Hamline University.

Maxi Gutbezahl '29 and Henry Park '28 made it to the round of 32. In doubles competition, the duos of Anshul Satav '27-Devansh Punjabi '29 and Willett-Murray also made it to the round of 32.

In the Midwest Open, Punjabi won the B flight singles title and Keegan McLaughlin '27 was first in the C flight.
