Pioneer women clam title at Grinnell Invite swimming and diving event

GRINNELL, Iowa - Balance again paved the way for the Grinnell College women's swimming and diving team as the Pioneers won their own Grinnell Invite Saturday.


The Pioneers tallied 893.5 points at Russell K. Osgood Pool, beating runner-up Nebraska Wesleyan University by nearly 200 points.

Alex Kruse '29 was first in 3-meter diving and achieved an NCAA regional cut with a score of 456.10. That score is third-best in program history.

Other champs for Grinnell were Nina Lyons '29 in the 1650-yard freestyle (18:07.46), Samantha Cook '27 in the 200 freestyle (1:58.89) and Sarah Lopez '26 in the 100 butterfly (57.79).

Molly Ryan '27 was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:13.01. The Pioneers were also runners-up in the 200 medley relay with Simone Bennett '29, Tory Morse '29, Lopez and Sophie Juethner '26 (1:49.18) and 400 freestyle relay with Ciara Vogler '26, Lopez, Morse and Cook (3:40.31).

Regan Stambaugh '26 posted fourth-place finishes in the 400 individual medley (4:53.85) and 200 backstroke (2:17.06). Also placing fourth was Bella Nesbeth '26 in 3-meter diving (338.85 points).

Placing fifth were Zeb O'Hara '28 in the 1650 freestyle (18:47.58), Jane Markovitz '26 in 3-meter diving (291.85 points), Bennett in the 100 butterfly (1:00.02), Morse in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.72) and Olivia Terry '28 in the 200 backstroke (2:17.31).

Juethner was sixth in the 50 freestyle in 24.92, while seventh place went to Joely Kam '28 in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.16) and Greta Dunn '26 in the 200 backstroke (2:17.98). O'Hara swam the 200 freestyle in 2:02.02 to finish eighth, the same placing Megan Gawlick '28 in the 1650 freestyle. Her time was 19:04.37.
