Grinnell women's tennis team claims 8th Midwest Conference crown in a row

Pioneers win 22nd title with sweeps of Monmouth and IC

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team completed a perfect run through fall play and secured its eighth consecutive Midwest Conference title in the process.

The Pioneers stretched their winning streak against league foes to 62, dating back to the 2018-19 season, by blanking Illinois College 7-0 Saturday afternoon. By moving to 7-0 in the MWC and 8-0 overall, Grinnell captured its 10th league title since 2016-17 and 22nd crown overall.

With the title comes hosting rights for next spring's four-team MWC Tournament, which also serves as the NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier. That event is set for May 1-2, 2027.

Grinnell began the day at Monmouth College, where the Pioneers blew past the Fighting Scots by a 7-0 score. Grinnell took care of doubles play with little problem, including 6-0 shutouts at No. 2 by Margot Groundwater '30 and Sanne Ijpma '30 and Addie Persian '27 and Laurel Buttrick '30 at No. 3. Also winning was the top doubles unit of Kayla Surpless '28 and Sofia Bolanos '28, who posted a 6-4 decision.
