Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ted Schultz

Grinnell just misses out on tie against league contender Lawrence

GRINNELL, Iowa - One week ago, Grinnell College's women's soccer team played preseason Midwest Conference favorite Lake Forest College to a draw.

On Saturday afternoon, the Pioneers nearly duplicated that feat against another league title contender.

For more than 77 minutes, Grinnell battled Lawrence University to a scoreless tie at Springer Field before the visitors found the back of the net to eke out a 1-0 victory.

Grinnell (2-4-1 MWC, 4-9-2 overall) enjoyed possession on its offensive side of the pitch most of the first half and was only outshot 4-3 in that span. But Lawrence (5-1-1 MWC, 9-2-5 overall) won the shots battle 7-2 in the second stanza, including the eventual game-winning goal in the 77th minute.

Peyton Dixon '27 played a strong match at keeper for the Pioneers, recording six saves. Hollye Anne Brinkley '29 had two of the Pioneers' shots, while Teya Lochridge '29, Maya Mozena '28 and Addison Thornberg '29 added one each.

Grinnell will attempt to punch its ticket to the MWC Tournament over the next two Saturdays, playing at Illinois College in a week and hosting Cornell College the following weekend.
