Pioneer men's soccer team falls victim to IC rally

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Grinnell College's men's soccer team grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead, but the Illinois College Blueboys rallied for two second-half goals in a 2-1 victory Saturday.

The Pioneers scored in the 25th minute on a goal by Ian O'Loughlin '28 that was assisted by Emmett Krez '29. The play was a breakaway where Krez gained control on the left side and flipped a pass to O'Loughlin who streaked into the box on the right side and sent the ball into the net. It was O'Loughlin's second goal of the season and fifth in his career.

But hosts tied the contest in the 61st minute and got a penalty kick goal with 10 minutes left to secure the win.Grinnell, 5-3 in the Midwest Conference and 11-4-1 overall, had two shots each from Beacan Mottl '28, Demi Oni '27 and O'Loughlin and one apiece from Samuel Gojjam '27 - who tied the career games played record at Grinnell with 74 - and Jake Lu '30.
