GC women stay in MWC Tourney hunt with victory at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - A goal with 17 minutes left, right after Illinois College had scored the equalizer, gave Grinnell College's women's soccer team a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers kept their playoff hopes intact.

Grinnell improved to 3-4-1 in the Midwest Conference and 5-9-2 overall entering next Saturday's regular-season home finale against Cornell College. A victory there would give the Pioneers a good shot of making the league's postseason tournament.

Teya Lochridge '29 scored her team-high fourth goal of the season in the 59th minute to break a scoreless tie. A pass was delivered from the left side that bounced around about 15 yards in front of the goal. Lochridge spun around her defender, put a touch in the ball and sent it into the net for her fifth career goal.

After the Lady Blues scored in the 72nd minute, Rylee Howard '30 scored less than a minute later. On the play, Howard recovered a ball from a scrum and sent it high into the net from 15 yards out. It was Howard's third goal of the season

Grinnell owned an 11-8 edge in shots with Howard taking four, Campbell Swaim '28 and Lochridge adding two each and Sarah Travis '27, Lucy Collier '30 and Ciara Sittig '30 getting one each.

Peyton Dixon '27 made three saves against Illinois College, which fell to 2-6 in the league and 4-12 overall.
