Grinnell women finish night on impressive note at 2026 MWC Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's swimming and diving team finished off the first night of the 2026 Midwest Conference Championships on an impressive note, winning the 200-yard medley relay by more than a second at Russell K. Osgood Pool.


The Pioneers' quartet of Simone Bennett '29, Tory Morse '29, Sarah Lopez '26 and Sophie Juethner '26 teamed up to swim the race in 1 minute, 46.53 seconds Thursday. That time ranks third in program history. 

Lopez now has 11 MWC titles to her credit, while Juethner won her second.

The Pioneers were second in the 800 freestyle relay to start the night, as Nina Lyons '29, Zeb O'Hara '28, Lopez and Samantha Cook '27 swam 7:48.78. That time ranks sixth in GC history and Lyons' leadoff leg of 
1:59.08 is 15th on the Pioneers' 200 freestyle chart.

Grinnell leads the team standings with 82 points, two in front of runner-up Lake Forest College.

The meet continues at 10 a.m. Friday.
