GRINNELL, Iowa – The Bear Center on the campus of Grinnell College will be a busy venue this weekend for Midwest Conference Championship action.
The MWC Indoor Track and Field Championships begin at 1 p.m. Friday in the Field House, and continue at 10:30 a.m.
The Grinnell men's basketball team will host the MWC Tournament, beginning with its 5 p.m. game Friday against Illinois College in Darby Gymnasium. The other semifinal will pit Monmouth College and Lake Forest College, with the winners meeting at 3 p.m. Saturday for the title and automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Both Grinnell women's and men's squads will be contenders for the MWC team titles. On the women's side, Grinnell has the league's top performers in
Hannah Roark '26 in the mile and
Rajanea Landers '28 in the triple jump. Ranked second are
Kate Solano '29 in the 400-meter dash and triple jump, along with the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
Top-ranked men's performers are
Lucas Fadden '26 in the 60 and 200, along with Jess Christnesen '29 in the 60 hurdles. Ranked second are
Luke Robinson '26 in the 3000,
Jack Novelle '26 in the high jump and 4x200, 4x400 and sprint medley relay teams.
Grinnell's men enter Friday's MWC Basketball Tourney game as the league's regular-season champs, having gone 15-1 in MWC games and 20-3 overall. Both win totals are tied for school records.
The Pioneers won both meetings with Illinois College this season, posting a 92-68 victory in December behind a 21-point performance from
Kai Te Huki '27. Earlier this month, Grinnell beat the Blueboys 100-93 with
Tyler Copes '29 scoring 15 points.
