NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team gave nationally-ranked Christopher Newport University all it could handle before the Captains escaped with a 4-3 victory Sunday.

Grinnell captured the singles point to lead off the match against the 25th-ranked hosts, with a 6-1 victory by Pari Chavan '27 and Logan Tom '29 at No. 2 and 7-5 decision by Eliana Martin '29 and Tan Mukherjee '26 at No. 3.

In singles play, Tom won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and Marta Gonzalez '29 rallied for a 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) win at No. 5.

Grinnell will bring an 8-2 record into Tuesday's match at Virginia Wesleyan University.
