GC men's tennis team displays its depth with split-squad victories

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's tennis team put its depth on display Saturday, winning matches with split squads competing at two different sites.

The Pioneers not only posted a 6-1 victory at Coe College, but also won 7-0 at home against Central College to improve to 11-5.

Grinnell, ranked 27th nationally, took the doubles point against Coe with victories at No. 2 by Maxi Gutbezahl '29 and Alex Doane '28 (7-6) and Garvin Murray '29 and Gervase Ngo '28 at No. 3 (6-1).

Lucas Willett '26 outlasted his opponent at No. 1 singles in a battle of regionally-ranked foes, winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. Grinnell also won at Nos. 3 through 6 with Murray (6-2, 6-0), Henry Park '28 (6-4, 6-3), Devansh Punjabi '29 (4-4, 6-4, 10-8) and Ngo (7-5, 4-6, 10-6).

In the victory over Central, doubles wins came from the duos of Aman Kothari '28-Caden Branum '28 (6-3), Josh Kruger '29-Anshul Satav '27 (6-4) and Kaan Mac Donald '28-Tavin Lee '29 (6-1).

In singles, winners were Kothari (6-2, 6-3), Kruger (3-6, 6-4, 1-0), Satav (6-2, 6-0), Branum (6-1, 6-0), Lee (6-0, 8-6) and Keegan McLaughlin '27 (6-0, 6-1).

The Pioneers open Midwest Conference play next weekend.
