Grinnell men dominate at MWC Individual Tennis Tourney with 8 flight titles

MADISON, Wis. - Grinnell College's men's tennis team wrapped up a dominating performance at the 2026 Midwest Conference Individual Championships Sunday, winning eight of nine flight titles at the Nielsen Tennis Center

Grinnell swept doubles play with the top-seeded duos of Lucas Willett '26-Albert Bostoen '26 at No. 1, Alex Doane '28-Maxi Gutbezahl '29 at No. 2 and Garvin Murray '29-Gervase Ngo '28 at No. 3. 

Singles champs were Gutbezahl at No. 2, Devansh Punjabi '29 at No. 3, Aman Kothrari '28 at No. 4, Bostoen at No. 5 and Anshul Satav '27 at No. 6.  All the single winners were top seeds except Satav, who was second. 

Willett and Bostoen beat a duo from Lawrence University 8-1 in the semifinals before clipping the second-seeded team from Lake Forest College 8-6. Doane and Gutbezahl won 8-2 against a team from Cornell and then beat the second-seeded duo from Lake Forest 8-3, while Murray and Ngo topped a team from Cornell 8-0 and beat the second seed from Lake Forest 8-5.

Singles championship matches saw Gutbezahl beating the third seed from Cornell 6-2, 6-4, Punjabi earning a 6-2, 6-2 decision over the second seed from Lake Forest, Kothari knocking off the second seed from Lake Forest 6-4, 6-4, Bostoen posting a 6-3, 6-3 decision over the third seed from Cornell and Satav toppling the top-seeded player from Lake Forest 6-1, 7-5.

Willett finished his GC career with seven MWC individual titles and 71 doubles victories, which is 14th in program history. He has 127 overall victories, 12th all-time.

Bostoen boosted his MWC title total to three, while Satav, Doane and Gutbezahl are at two apiece.
