Pioneer men's soccer team stays perfect with victory at Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. - Already off to its best start since 1999, Grinnell College's men's soccer team kept the good times going Sunday by shutting out Eureka College 2-0.

The Pioneers, who improved to 4-0, have outscored their foes 11-2 through four outings.

Grinnell absolutely dominated on both ends of the pitch, holding a 22-2 edge in shots and 6-1 count in corners.

The Pioneers made a statement right from the start, as Jack Pennachio '28 scored his team-high third goal less than two minutes into the match. Assists were provided by Ian O'Loughlin '28 and Samuel Gojjam '27. The goal was Pennachio's fifth in his career.

The score remained 1-0 through halftime before Daniel Kastanovich '30 scored his first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute on assists by Oliver Klemm '29 and Jake Lu '30.

The shot distribution was balanced for Grinnell, with Pennachio, Klemm and Jake Brecknock '28 getting three apiece and Gojjam, O'Loughlin, Lu, Gavin Egeland '30 and Katsanovich taking two each. Coming up with one shot each were Beacan Mottl '28, Demi Oni '27 and Luke Akosa '29.

Jack Alexander '29 had another impressive outing as Grinnell's keeper, earning one save.
