Grinnell volleyball team drops match at unbeaten Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Grinnell College volleyball team took to the road Tuesday, falling in three sets at unbeaten Buena Vista University.

The Pioneers lost the first two sets 25-13 and 25-8, but refused to fold and put up a strong fight in the third set before losing 25-20.

Keira Sullivan '27 had a solid hitting night for Grinnell, compiling eight kills and a .231 attack efficiency. Leticia Machado '29 added six kills. Kylie-Ann Smith '27 posted 13 assists, while Millie Leonard '27 led the charge in digs with 10. Both Sullivan and Emilee Appel '29 had one ace.

After losing by big margins in the first two sets, Grinnell (3-5) trailed the third 9-6 before taking command with a 6-0 run that included two kills by Sullivan. The Beavers answered with an 8-0 run to go ahead 17-12, but Grinnell came back with a 3-0 spurt that included yet another kill by Sullivan.

Buena Vista (7-0) later built a 20-16 lead, but Sullivan and Machado sparked a 3-0 run to bring the visitors within a point. However, Buena Vista hung on for the victory.

Grinnell has a week off before playing at Wartburg College next Tuesday. The Pioneers are back on the home court the following night, entertaining Nebraska Wesleyan University.
