Roth and Co. lift Pioneer women's cross country team to success in season opener

PELLA, Iowa - Hannah Roth '27 posted a Grinnell College women's cross country top-50 time in the Pioneers' season-opening Dutch Invite hosted by Central College Friday night.

Roth ran the 5-kilometer race in 20 minutes, 2.3 seconds to place third in a field of 61 runners. That time ranks 46th in program history.

Other scorers for Grinnell were Cindy Wang '28 (fifth in 20:21.1), Arushi Kharbanda '29 (sixth in 20:23.3), Lizzie Drew '29 (ninth in 20:45.2) and Ella McEntee '29 (11th in 20:48.6).

Also for Grinnell, Beatrice Ebel '28 was 13th in 20:57.0 and Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 took 15th in 21:22.8.

The individual champ was Maddy Stevens of Central with a time of 19:19.3. The Dutch also won the team title with 25 points, while Grinnell was a close second with 34.

Grinnell hosts its annual Les Duke Invitational next Saturday.
