Grinnell women's soccer team rallies to claim draw with Saint Mary's

GRINNELL, Iowa - Two days after losing a hard-fought decision at Simpson College, Grinnell College's women's soccer team bounced back in a big way to post a 1-all draw with Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.

The Pioneers fired off a season-high 10 shots Sunday at Springer Field while moving their record to 0-2-1. Saint Mary's, which had half the shots of the hosts, fell to 1-0-1.

Saint Mary's got on the board in the fifth minute, but the Pioneers evened the score three minutes later on Rylee Howard's '30 goal that was aided by Teya Lochridge's '29 assist. On the play, which was Grinnell's first score of the season, Lochridge collected the ball well in front of the box and lofted a pass to Howard, who was charging down the right side of the box. Howard briefly controlled it as the Saint Mary's keeper approached. Howard beat her, sending a low ground ball into the left side of the net.

Howard led Grinnell's offense with four shots, including three on goal, while Lochridge had three shots and Sarah Travis '27, Caroline Novak '30 and Elsa Nielsen '27 one each.

Peyton Dixon '27 worked the entire contest at keeper for Grinnell, earning two saves.

Grinnell is at home again Wednesday when Coe College visits for a 4:30 p.m. test.
