What is SAAC?
A student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student athletes' lives. There is a SAAC at the institution, conference, and national levels. Presently, there are separate national SAACs for NCAA Divisions I, II and III. NCAA legislation mandates that all member institutions have SAACs on their respective campuses. Further, NCAA legislation requires that all member conferences have SAACs.
SAAC Mission
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) advocates for student-athlete well-being within Grinnell varsity athletics and NCAA. We seek to foster a one team mentality and promote collaboration with the greater Grinnell community.
Purpose
Division III student-athlete voice in the Division III governance structure by reviewing legislation; identifying significant student-athlete issues; implementing national student-athlete based initiatives; encouraging community outreach; and enhancing Division III student-athlete involvement in and understanding of Division III in general.
The purpose of SAAC may vary across conferences and institutions. However, the following points reflect the guidelines when developing SAAC's strategic plan.
Generate a student-athlete voice within the institution and conference
Review and respond to proposed NCAA legislation
Identify significant student-athlete issues
Support the campus and conference community through community outreach efforts, with primary focus on the NCAA Division III SAAC and Special Olympics partnership.
To execute our strategic plan, organizational committees have been developed by the Grinnell College SAAC. These committees reflect the immediate needs of the Physical Education, Athletics, and Recreation department (PEAR).
