Maddy Griess

Maddy Griess joined Grinnell College as Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach in the winter of 2024-25.
 
Griess comes from California Lutheran University, where she served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and Coordinator of the Forrest Fitness Center. During her tenure, Griess worked with a wide array of sports teams, including soccer, volleyball, water polo, lacrosse and track and field. Notably, she played a role in the 2023 NCAA DIII National Championship season for the Regals’ soccer team.
 
The Andover, Minn., native earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Human Performance from Cal Lutheran in 2020. As an undergraduate student, Griess was an intern for the strength and conditioning department, where she worked with several teams including football, baseball and both men’s and women’s water polo. She served as a senior captain for the women’s soccer team, guiding the Regals to two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and a trip to the Sweet 16. Griess was also named an All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2020.
 
Griess pursued her master’s degree in Sport Science and Coaching Education with an emphasis in Strength and Conditioning from East Tennessee State University in December of 2022.
 
Griess is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA and holds a Level 1 Certification from USA Weightlifting (USAW).
